How to Access Your WordPress Blog as an Admin on AWS Lightsail

Introduction:

  • Briefly explain that in this guide, I will walk through the steps to access your WordPress blog deployed on AWS Lightsail as an administrator.
  • Emphasize the importance of admin access for managing and customizing your website.

Prerequisites:

  • List the prerequisites for the post:
    • An AWS account.
    • A WordPress instance deployed on AWS Lightsail.

To access your WordPress blog as an admin, you’ll require a username and password. By default, Lightsail provides you with a username, which is “user.” However, to retrieve your password, you’ll need to access the terminal.

  • Access the terminal by clicking on the terminal icon in Lightsail.
  • In the terminal, type the following command:

cat bitnami_application_password

This will reveal your WordPress admin password.

Now, visit your WordPress blog by navigating to https://your_blog/wp-admin and log in as the user with the credentials you’ve just obtained. This will grant you full access to your WordPress admin dashboard.

It’s not always easy to remember credentials, especially when you want to focus on writing articles. To simplify the process, we will guide you through creating another user as an author, streamlining your writing and content management experience.

Creating an Author User:

Now that you’re logged in as an admin, it’s time to set up an author account to simplify your content creation experience. Here’s how:

  1. In the side menu of your WordPress admin dashboard, locate and click on “Users.”

2. Under “Users,” you’ll find an option for “Add New.” Click on it to add a new user.

3. Fill in the required details for the new user. You can use the automatically generated password, or if you prefer, create your custom password. However, please ensure that your chosen password is not way too simple for security reasons.

With an author user in place, you’ll be able to seamlessly manage your content and collaborate with others on your WordPress blog. It’s a handy step in simplifying your admin tasks and enhancing your website’s productivity and security.

Customizing Your Blog:

As an administrator, you have the flexibility to use a pre-designed template for your blog or design it entirely on your own. WordPress offers a wide range of themes and customization options to make your blog unique. Feel free to choose what suits your style and brand the best.
